How to ask for a cash gift for a wedding present?

A lot of you brides-to-be wonder how you can possibly ask for money without sounding rude but equally don’t want to end up with a pile of unwanted gifts. With many wedding couples living together before tying the knot, they have often got all the household essentials traditionally brought for a wedding gift. So if you’re going to ask for money, what are you going to spend it on? Your guests will most probably appreciate you mentioning this as they will know what they are contributing towards.

Say it with a poem

Now-a-days it is popular to ask for money by adding a poem card or including a separate poem card inside your invitation. Here are a few poems ideas;

Poem 1
We really hope you can join us
on our special day
You’ll make all our memories complete
in every single way
We do not have a gift list
and we know you’ll understand
Our house and contents are complete
with pots and plates and pans
But should you really want to give
and celebrate this way
a gift of money would be great
For a rainy day

Poem 2
We know it’s not tradition
It’s not the way it’s done
But instead of a Wedding list
We’d love a bit of sun
We’ve been together for a while
And all our bills are paid
We’ve got our plates, our pots and pans
Our plans have all been made
We would appreciate your help through
To send us on our way
A contribution to our Honeymoon
In a land quite far away
But most importantly, we request
You come to our special day
And have some fun along the way

Poem 3
So what do you get
For the bride and groom
Whose house needs things
In every room?
When shopping for a present
Please don’t be rash
As there is always the option
To just give us cash!
We hope you don’t find
Our request to be funny
But we really would appreciate
A gift of money

Poem 4
The tradition of the wishing well
used on the wedding day,
is here both for your money gifts
and for what you would like to say.

So please drop in a token of love
for this special Groom & Bride,
as they start their life united by God
to live forever side by side.

Your presence at our wedding
Is present enough,
But if we’re honored
with a gift from you,
May we respectfully request a gift of money
To help the dream of
A honeymoon come true!

Poem 5
We really hope you can join us
on our special day
You’ll make all our memories complete
in every single way
We do not have a gift list
and we know you’ll understand
Our house and contents are complete
with pots and plates and pans
But should you really want to give
and celebrate this way
a gift of money would be great
for a rainy day

If you feel adding a poem might spoil the look of your wedding invitation or you do not want to spend the money on a separate poem card you could opt for a simple explanatory paragraph instead like one of these;

We respectfully ask that no gifts are brought, if you wish to make a cash gift with which we would like to purchase some larger items for our house, there will be a box at the reception.

We have everything we need after living together for a year, and only ask that you share our special day. However, if you wanted to make a monetary contribution, we would be most grateful, but please do not feel obliged to do so.

The most important thing for us is your presence during the day to celebrate our marriage and gifts are by no means expected. If however, you do feel you would like to give something, then some spending money to enjoy whilst on our dream honeymoon would be very much appreciated.
