Wedding save the date etiquette

When to send save the date cards

We recommend that save the date cards should be sent six to twelve months in advance to allow invited guests to put the date in their schedules. If your wedding is going to be abroad or have many out of town guests, we recommend the cards be sent nine to twelve months in advance to allow people to make travel and hotel arrangements. If your wedding date is planned near a major holiday day it’s best to send your save the date cards eighteen months in advance.

After sending out your save the date cards you may get the odd guest tell you that they will be unable to attend your big day, this is unfortunate but it helps you decide if you would like to ask someone else in their place or helps you plan how many invitetions to order. I would recommend that your follow up wedding invitation should be sent out about six to twelve weeks before your wedding date, thus allowing your guests plenty of time to rsvp and for you to inform your venue of final numbers.
